1 ONE HOUR GROUP SESSION (e.g. in a parish / deanery meeting)

This suggested structure for a one-hour slot can be adapted.

A facilitator familiar with the report is needed, especially for the final 15 minute activity suggested.

15 mins Introduction (suggested topic – the role of a Bishop)

Invite group to brainstorm the various jobs and functions of bishops (write on flipchart)
Compare this with the summary list (report – p 63)
Invite the group to note roles / understandings that were not initially mentioned.

5 mins

10 mins (follows from either2a or 2b - in plenary or small groups according to numbers)

Have 2 flipchart sheets – headed ‘Only Male bishops’ and ‘ Women Bishops’
Each individual has 2 ‘post-its’ – 1 to be put on each sheet.
Identifying Key issues: each person notes what seems most significant argument on each side, and puts on sheet.

15 mins (With a facilitator who is familiar with the report)

Classify post-its by the issues raised in Chapter 3 of the report (listed below).
Draw attention to the types of argument the group is using.
Are there issues the report sees as key that the group is underplaying? (or vice versa) Does this suggest further reading/study is needed?
